New O.C. area code going into effect

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. The California Public Utilities Commission has just approved a 657 area code for new numbers in the 714 area.

This means homes and businesses that already have the 714 area code keep it, but people must dial one plus the area code for local calls. People will not be charged a long distance fee.

The new dialing starts on Saturday.
