Fire destroys South L.A. business

SOUTH LOS ANGELES The fire started shortly after 11:30 p.m. on the 200 block of East 58th Street near a residential area.

Firefighters arriving on scene found flames burning through the roof. They tried battling flames from inside first, but ultimately the fire was just too aggressive and they were ordered out of the building. Within minutes the roof collapsed.

It took firefighters about an hour and 20 minutes to put out the blaze.

None of the nearby homes were damaged in the fire, but the building looks to be a complete loss. Damage is estimated at about $1.25 million.

There's no word on what started the fire. One security guard believes it did start in the interior of the building. The cause remains under investigation.

None of the workers at the factory or the responding firefighters were injured in the fire.
