Fleeing suspects fire at O.C. cops

BUENA PARK, Calif. Buena Park police officers attempting to stop a car for vehicle code violations, were involved in a high speed chase at about 8:45 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway, police said.

The passenger of the Honda fired at officers while fleeing, and continued firing at officers during the pursuit, but no officers were hit by gunfire.

The suspects exited the freeway at Valley View and pulled over just north of Rosecrans Boulevard in the city of La Mirada. Police said the driver was arrested without further incident, while the passenger fled on foot into the neighborhood.

Officers searched all cars leaving the neighborhood at gunpoint, according to the Orange County Register.

The passenger was found a short time later in the neighborhood and was also arrested, police said.

Gun-sniffing dogs have been brought in to search for a weapon, but no weapon has been located yet.

An elementary school in the area had been put on lockdown. No one was hurt.
