Power restored at John Wayne Airport

SANTA ANA, Calif. Airport officials say construction workers accidentally struck power lines at about 9:30 a.m. on Monday. The workers were installing a fence near the terminals.

A backup generator provided power to computer systems, security checkpoints and runway traffic lights.

There were reports that planes were backed up during the morning outage because planes could not take off. In addition, there were reports that landing planes were unable to park because all the gates were occupied.

Power for baggage carousels and jetways was restored two hours later. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
