COSTA MESA, Calif. --
Retailers in Costa Mesa are being told to double check their money after the arrest of two counterfeiting suspects.Investigators say one of those suspects was using chemicals to clear $5 bills and reprinting them as $50 and $100 bills.
The one-month investigation also turned up fake ID cards, social security cards and blank credit card stock.
The money counterfeiting process does not wash away the Abraham Lincoln watermark on the bills. The quickest way to check is to look for the watermark on the lower right side of the bill.
