Woman killed in possible domestic dispute

CARSON, Calif. The shooting occurred around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in an industrial area near Wilmington Avenue in Carson. Investigators say the woman, Veronica Reyes, was on her way to work when she was shot several times through a car window. Investigators believe her estranged husband, Carlos Reyes, 29, was waiting for her nearby.

"It is apparently a result of a domestic dispute. The suspect, we believe, is her estranged husband. Apparently she pulled into a parking place adjacent to the building. Before she could get out of her car, the suspect approached her and fired several rounds into the vehicle," said Lieutenant Dave Coleman, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Just a few blocks away, on Banning Boulevard and 233rd Street, investigators found a black BMW. They believe it belongs to the victim's estranged husband. Investigators say several people were in the area of the car and possibly witnessed the shooting. Cameras in the area may have also recorded the suspect leaving the scene. Investigators aren't sure how he got away.

"We don't know. He may have had another vehicle parked in the area. We really don't know," said Lt. Coleman.

The victim's family did not want to speak on camera. However, it appeared the couple was in the process of getting a divorce.

Officials don't know if the couple had any history of domestic violence.

Sheriff's investigators say they are searching several addresses associated with the husband. However, they could use the public's help.

If you have any information, you should call Sheriff's homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.
