O.C. standoff ends with suspect's death

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. Deputies responded to a neighbor's complaint that her Hummer had been struck in a hit-and-run on Rue du Chateau. A short time later, deputies spotted damage on the front of a jeep belonging to the dead man.

After a deputy heard a shot fired, SWAT arrived and homes were evacuated. The man barricaded himself inside.

About six hours later, deputies fired tear gas and found the man locked in an upstairs closet. He died of an apparent self-inflicted wound to the head.
