Bank robberies up 50 pct in Orange County

ORANGE, Calif. Officers in the city of Orange are asking for the public's help to solve what they say was a brazen bank robbery.

Surveillance video shows the suspects entering a Citibank on North Tustin Street. All three men were carrying handguns and ordered everyone to get on the floor. They threatened to shoot or kill anyone who tried to stop them.

The robbers drove off in a car that turned out to be stolen.

All three suspects were young African-American men in their 20s. Police say it is clear they are professional criminals. They knew exactly what to do and what they wanted.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department says bank robberies are up by more than 50 percent compared to last year. A spokesman says there's a direct link between those robberies and the worsening economy.
