O.C. transit officials consider fare hike

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. OCTA officials say a rate hike may be necessary to cover increased health care and pension costs, high fuel expenses, and reduced state funds for transportation.

If the fare increase takes effect, the cost of one ride would increase from $1.25 to $1.50; a day pass would go from $3 to $4; and monthly passes would increase from $45 to $55.

Officials say without fare increases, bus riders would face further cuts in service.
