Red meat in diet? Greater E. coli risk

People with too much red meat in their diet are at greater risk for a potent form of E. coli that can result in death.Researchers in the U.S. and Australia found persistently eating red meat causes sugar to build up in cells in the intestines and blood vessels. That sugar attracts toxins from E. coli, making it easier to get into the blood stream.

E. coli is transmitted through undercooked meat or unwashed fruits and vegetables exposed to sewage-contaminated water.
