New Metrolink rules to avoid crashes

LOS ANGELES The change follows two crashes within just a couple of months, in which Metrolink trains collided with freight trains.

The crash in Chatsworth killed 25 people, and a collision in Rialto last Thursday injured four people.

Investigations found both engineers failed to make the required radio announcement to indicate they were approaching red lights.

Now, Metrolink says its engineers must slow to 40 miles per hour or less when approaching possible red signals.
