LOS ANGELES --A news conference on Thursday will announce a new federal, state and local task force to target smuggling and other criminal activities at the L.A. and Long Beach ports.Conservative estimates suggest billions of dollars worth of counterfeit goods make their way through the ports. That's in addition to drug smuggling, human smuggling and merchandise never assessed entry duty.
The new task force, comprised of nine different agencies, is modeled after similar efforts to stop criminal activities on the northern and southern U.S. borders.
