LOS ANGELES --Adding just a handful of nuts seems to provide some extra benefits to people who suffer from metabolic syndrome.Metabolic syndrome is a combination of disorders that includes obesity and high blood sugar. Scientists in Spain added nuts to a Mediterranean-type diet -- that's one high in lean protein, olive oil and grains. They found that by adding just a handful of nuts to this diet helped people manage their metabolic syndrome.
Some of the benefits were lower blood sugar and lower cholesterol.
