Street race kills woman, arrests made

ROWLAND HEIGHTS Pathfinder Road is a popular place for street racing. Patrol officers say that's just what two drivers were doing on March 2 when one of them crashed. Andrea Alvarez, 20, a passenger in that car was killed.

"She was and is the best part of our lives. We have no hard feelings against them. We feel that they don't have the grief that we have, but they have a tremendous grief that they must be bearing," said victim's father, Albert Alvarez.

After a 9 month investigation the CHP is now charging both drivers involved in the race with vehicular manslaughter.

ABC says Munos was illegally served alcohol at this restaurant, just a short drive from where the crash happened. The waiter is also facing criminal charges in the case.

The waiter who served the drinks is not the only one who is in trouble. The ABC is also taking action against Joe's Crab Shack and the Alvarez family is thinking about filing a civil suit.

Joe's Crab Shack says it is cooperating with the investigation. The waiter charged in the case has been fired. As for the Alvarez family they just don't want anyone else to have to go through this.

"Be careful . Choose. Like if somebody has a drink and they say they're okay to drive just choose not to go with them. Choose not to be my sister. You know, choose not to get behind the wheel after drinking," said victim's sister, Jennifer Alvarez.

Ten months after her death the Alvarez family still trying to heal. And at least now with the investigation complete they feel they have a better understanding of how and why Andrea died.
