63-year-old woman killed in house fire

SOUTH LOS ANGELES Firefighters responded to a fire in the attic of the building in the 400 block of W. 42nd Street at about 5 a.m., authorities said.

A 63-year-old female resident was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, but died at the hospital shortly after.

The fire was confined to one unit and extinguished in 36 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
