December 21, 2008 12:00:00 AM PST
Patrice Flores is the oldest of six girls, and like a guarded big sister she wrote Santa this holiday. However, instead of gifts Patrice Flores asked for food. She says her dad works hard, but doesn't earn enough money to keep the family from going to bed hungry some nights.

"Going to bed on an empty stomach hurts," said Patrice in her letter to Santa. "It hurts because I hear my two little sisters cry, because they are hungry and can't go to sleep, and I can't even give them some milk."

The letter went to Santa Claus, or at least chief Claus, at fire station 114 at Lake Los Angeles. Santa dispatched his elves for help.

Fire fighters arrived to Patrice's home with handfuls of presents, clothes and lots of food. Marie Callender's donated boxes full of their most popular restaurant dishes.

"I know it makes my sisters happy, so it makes me happy and I know it makes my mom happy too."
