Police say a witness confronted him Saturday and he took off without the package.
Police tracked Porterfield down and took him into custody Saturday after the witness wrote down his license plate number. They say they found stolen packages in his car.
Porterfield was booked and released on $20,000 bail.
Police believe similar thefts have occurred, and are urging anyone with information to call Hermosa Beach police at (310) 318- 0360.
