The Placer County Sheriff's Department described Davis as an experienced skier who had been riding the slopes at Squaw Valley since he was a child. Snow had been falling heavily in the area over the last day, and a blizzard and high winds buffeted the mountain Thursday morning.
The accident was the second tragedy to strike Squaw Valley in a little over two weeks. Three young women hoping to get seasonal jobs died of carbon monoxide poisoning on Dec. 16 while sleeping in a car just outside the resort.
