LOS ANGELES --A water main broke in Hollywood early Wednesday, digging a sinkhole in the street and damaging some nearby apartments. The gushing water was reported at Gordon Street and Lexington Avenue about 1 a.m., drawing firefighters and Department of Water and Power crews to the scene, a Los Angeles police sergeant at the Hollywood Station said.
Some residents in the area were evacuated, and at least two apartments were believed to have been evacuated.
No one with the Los Angeles Fire Department or the DWP was available for comment overnight.
