Man arrested in 'Marley and Me' theft

A 23-year-old man who allegedly lifted a 3-month-old yellow lab from a cage in a pet shop and ran out with the pup -- then gave it to his girlfriend as a Christmas present -- has been arrested.The thieves were caught on surveillance tape at Pet City on 7401 Katella Ave. in Stanton at about 5 p.m. Dec. 22, said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say one man distracted the cashier while the other ran off with a 3-month-old yellow Labrador puppy valued at $1,300.

The resident of Orange, whose name is not yet available, will be booked on suspicion of burglary and grand theft, says Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Arrangements are being made for the dog's return, Amormino says.
