Investigators say the group was taking a hike along the train tracks, and thought the tracks were no longer in use. When the group saw the train coming toward them they panicked and tried to escape the train's path. Mina-Calove was struck in the head by a bar on the side of the train. None of the other people in the group were hurt.
The Amtrak train, which was headed from San Francisco to San Diego, was stopped for several hours while police conducted an investigation. There were about 400 passengers aboard the train, no one inside the train sustained any injuries.
