Americans consuming more sugary drinks

According to a study in the /*American Journal of Clinical Nutrition*/, Americans now drink 300 calories a day in /*sugary drinks*/. That's 50 more calories a day than 20 years ago.

The extra calories could lead people to gain an extra five pounds a year.

Researchers say the increase is likely due to sweetened drinks becoming more readily available and an increase in container size.
