Oxnard man suspected of murder-suicide

OXNARD Mauricio Cuevas Romero, 40, of Oxnard, was found Saturday slumped over the steering wheel in his car parked at a hiking trail in the Santa Monica Mountains. He likely bled to death after he slashed his left wrist and elbow, said Ventura County Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Craig Stevens.

Romero was suspected in the stabbing death of his 39-year-old wife, Olga Lidia Dominguez-Simon, on Wednesday in Oxnard. Romero's teenage daughter also was stabbed and she was taken to a hospital. Her name wasn't released.

A warrant had been issued for Romero, who police believed may have fled to Mexico. A Mexican voter registration card was found in his wallet.

"He was the only suspect in the homicide. The case is cleared," said Jim Seitz, a major crimes supervisor for the Oxnard Police Department.
