Study: Stressed kids may develop asthma

January 21, 2009 8:45:30 AM PST
A new study out of New Zealand shows children who are stressed are at increased risk of developing asthma in adulthood.Researchers following more than 18,000 adults found that those who experienced a lot of adversity in their youth had a greater chance of developing asthma.

The problems included things like abuse, a death in the family or financial problems.

It has long been known that people with asthma are more likely to experience anxiety disorders, but it is usually thought that the disorders occur as a consequence of asthma.
