Hail pelts roofs in San Gabriel Valley

AZUSA, Calif. In Azusa on Monday morning, homes and cars were coated with a lot of white stuff that looked like snow, but it was actually hail.

Residents said the hail made a lot of noise overnight.

"Like rocks coming down from the sky, very bad," said Asuza resident Enrique Tromcoso.

All along the 210 Freeway, the foothill communities were hit with heavy doses of hail.

"This is really surprising," said Ruben Araujo, an Azusa resident. Araujo said the storm sounded like an earthquake.

The storm system also produced thunder storms and heavy rainfall that led to problems on the road.

A car spun out on the 10 Freeway at the 57, colliding into a big rig in the Pomona area.

The /*California Highway Patrol*/ says snow was falling before dawn on the 4,000-foot-high Grapevine segment of 5 North, but there are no immediate plans to close it.
