More uninsured going to Calif. hospitals

More unemployed and uninsured people are going to hospitals instead of clinics statewide, putting added strain on already overcrowded facilities.

The number of hospital patients in October of last year was up 4 percent than the year before in California, according to the survey of 19 public hospitals statewide -- including four in Los Angeles County -- conducted by the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems.

Hospitals have also seen a 10 percent increase in uninsured patients and a 19 percent increase in uninsured emergency room patients.
