February 15, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
Officials say an American Airlines flight on its way to Chicago from John Wayne Airport was diverted after one of its engines went out. American Airlines spokesman Billy Sanez says the engine on Flight 1236 died just minutes after takeoff at 3:21 p.m. Sunday. The 757, carrying 149 passengers and a crew of six, was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport, where it landed safely about 10 minutes later.

Nobody on board was injured.

The incident is under investigation.
