Broken water pipe causes freeway closure

MURRIETA, Calif. A pipe that runs under the freeway apparently gave way after about 30 years of wear and tear. While the road sank, there were no injuries.

Crews are working around the clock to fill in the hole, which measure 25 feet across and about 6 feet deep. Crews are also replacing the pipe, which is located about 20 feet deep.

The entire 215 remains closed for about a 2-mile stretch near Los Alamos Road, not far from the Interstate 15-215 split.

The south side is expected to reopen Sunday evening, and the north side is expected to reopen late Tuesday evening.

Traffic is being rerouted around the site.
