Major beauty deals at swanky salons

February 23, 2009 4:02:08 PM PST
The economy may be in the dumps, but that doesn't mean your "'do" has to suffer. Haircuts, blow-dries, color and even waxing can all be had for cut-rate prices at some of the swankiest salons in town."Hair is still important," said celebrity hairstylist Jose Eber.

Eber, one of L.A.'s best known hairstylists, says even a recession shouldn't ruin your look.

"Looking good, feeling good, is still very important during these difficult times when everybody is so stressed," he said.

Eber's salon on Rodeo Drive offers $35 color jobs and $40 cuts after hours, by appointment and by assistant stylists -- some of whom have years of experience.

"Our assistants are supervised by established stylists or myself, so they will never walk away with a bad haircut," Eber said.

If you head downstairs at Eber's salon, you'll find another great deal: A new high-end luxury makeup line called Le Metier de Beaute.

"'Le Metier de Beaute' means the craft of beauty in French," said celebrity makeup artist Ivan Castro.

Castro is offering free "runway-ready" eyes, also by appointment and after hours.

"Even through really tough times, it's very important for women to feel really amazing and to look their best," Castro said.

The deal is also available at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills.

Gavert Atelier also offers cuts and colors after hours by highly trained assistants. Highlights start at $35, and cuts go for $25.

"This is a great deal for those who are really cutting back now during these hard times," said Jonathan Castellanos, Gavert Atelier Salon.

The salon is also offering deals at its new Nagomi hair spa: $40 off a 60-minute scalp massage and blow dry.

Recession-busting deals can also be found at Frederic Fekkai and The Loft Hair Lounge and Green Spa, both in Beverly Hills. The following deals are good through April 1:

  • 30-minute Thai massage for $20 or 1 hour for $60
  • Core strength training class: First class is free, $20 thereafter. Classes are 45 minutes on Mondays at 6 p.m.
  • Blow-out for $25
  • Men's haircut for $40
  • Cuts, color highlights, hair straightening, extensions, green tea conditioning hair masques, organic & galvanic facials are all 50 percent off

And don't let waxing go by the wayside just because you're short on cash.

Get Waxed in Venice is running a "by donation" special if you're unemployed, which means unemployed customers pay only what they can. The offer is good on week days from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"All you have to do is bring in a current unemployment or severance stub," said Elisha Reverby from Get Waxed.

"It just picks up your day a little bit, makes you feel better, more positive."
