The driver, a 37-year-old San Diego man, was suspected of shoplifting from a /*Target*/ store, and reportedly tried to attack a security guard with a hammer.
Police say when he was forced off the road, they had to break a window to stop him from stabbing himself with a piece of glass. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.
A female passenger was also hospitalized after stabbing herself with glass.
