Sharp increase of women selling eggs

February 27, 2009 1:25:31 PM PST
With job losses mounting, many fertility clinics are reporting a sharp increase in the number of women offering to sell their eggs. Successful candidates can earn anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000 for a donation.

Some clinics have seen a 40 percent increase in egg donor inquiries in the last year, but not everyone who applies will be accepted.

One clinic says less than 10 percent of applicants are chosen for egg donations.

The ideal candidates are said to be women in their 20s who are healthy and well-educated.
