Calif. lawmaker: Regulate fertility clinics

Thirty-three-year-old unemployed single mother /*Nadya Suleman*/ delivered eight babies in January after multiple embryo implants. She already had six other children.

/*Democratic State Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod*/, of Chino, has proposed new legislation designed to place fertility clinics under the jurisdiction of the state medical board for the first time. The bill would also set standards and guidelines for fertility clinics.

All of Suleman's 14 children were the result of fertility treatments by Beverly Hills physician /*Dr. Michael Kamrava*/.

There are fertility treatment guidelines set by the /*American Society for Reproductive Medicine*/, but the procedures are largely unregulated by the government.
