Fugitive gang member caught in Menifee

SANTA ANA, Calif. Baldomero Johnny Diaz, 35, escaped from juvenile hall years ago was arrested Wednesday in Menifee.

He's being transferred to state custody Thursday to begin serving his long-delayed sentence.

In 1990, Diaz was convicted of six counts of attempted murder for a drive-by gang shooting in Santa Ana the year before.

Diaz escaped juvenile hall by climbing through a hole in a fence. Six weeks later he was sentenced to life in prison, although he was not in the courtroom.

Prosecutors say they began to investigate Diaz's whereabouts after learning he'd been arrested twice in the last 10 years in San Diego under aliases for solicitation of prostitution and driving under the influence.
