Schwarzenegger cabinet member resigns

March 5, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
ABC7 Eyewitness News has confirmed that a California cabinet member has resigned in the wake of a speaking engagement deemed to be a conflict of interest.State and Consumer Services Agency Secretary Rosario Marin accepted speaking fees to address pharmaceutical companies, which conflicts with Governor Schwarzenegger's administration policy. Appointees are forbidden to receive income from speaking engagements. Some of the companies she delivered speeches to were doing business with her agency.

State law does not permit certain officials from accepting speaking fees.

The State and Consumer Services Agency in 2008 pushed for reductions in state oversight of prescription drugs.
