Funeral held for LAPD deputy chief

SOUTH LOS ANGELES Funeral services for /*LAPD Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner*/ were held Monday morning at Crenshaw Christian Center.

A steady stream of mourners turned up Sunday night for the viewing at the Faith Dome Sanctuary on South Vermont Avenue.

Garner, who was one of the department's highest ranking black officers, died unexpectedly on Mar. 1 at the age of 53.

The 31-year veteran was the commanding officer of the department's South Bureau and was in charge of recruitment for the LAPD.
