Obama poster artist faces vandalism charges

BOSTON Fairey's attorney, Jeffrey Wiesner, claims Fairey wasn't in Boston at the time of the alleged crimes. In a written statement, Fairey said his art is widely available on the Internet, and he wasn't involved in the illegal postings.

The 38-year-old artist was arrested last month in Boston on separate graffiti charges dating back almost nine years.

Fairey is also involved in a legal dispute with the Associated Press. The company claims Fairey's famed poster was based on an Associated Press photograph. The AP has accused Fairey of copyright infringement, and has filed a lawsuit demanding compensation.
