Gray whale wanders into San Diego Bay

SAN DIEGO The Harbor Patrol is trying to shepherd the 30-foot mammal back to the open ocean. There is no indication the whale is injured.

Boaters spotted the whale Tuesday and helped wave ship traffic away from the area.

Migration season technically ended in February, but animal experts say gray whales do stray occasionally.

Gray whales feed during the summer in Alaska and go to Baja to deliver their calves in the winter.
