The toddler's mother had opened the motorized sectional garage door as she prepared to leave home with her two sons, according to a Sheriff's Department lieutenant.
When she attempted to close the garage door, "something malfunctioned, and the door hit the 3-year-old in the head," said the lieutenant.
Homicide detectives determined that the death was a result of an accident.
While detectives were inspecting the door, it would suddenly slam shut, a video camera crew reported.
