Machete-wielding man shot by deputies

ROSEMEAD The suspect's father called authorities at around 11 a.m., saying his son was angry and high on drugs. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Arnesto Casteneda, then went next door to his neighbor's home asking for a car ride.

That's when deputies arrived and confronted Casteneda in the backyard. Officers said when they ordered Casteneda to drop the weapons he advanced on them saying his father was trying to kill him. Deputies said Casteneda continued to move toward them forcing them to open fire.

Casteneda was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Others neighbors in the area said Casteneda was a known drug user and was recently released from prison.
