Officers found a 45-year-old Steven Secundino Perez of Perris dead of a gunshot wound inside a home.
As a result of their investigation, detectives arrested Mario Albert Beltran.
According to the Press-Enterprise newspaper, Perez and Beltran were friends, but investigators do not yet know a motive for the shooting.
In addition to the murder charge, the paper reports that Beltran has been charged with possession of drugs for sale.
Beltran has been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
