LAX approves wider cross-field taxiway

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT The Board of Airport Commissioners Monday approved the construction of a wider cross-field taxiway between the north and south runways.

The wider taxiway is key to accommodate the new jumbo airliners like the Airbus A-380, the Boeing 747-8 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that are now landing and taking off at LAX.

Currently, no other aircraft can use the cross-field taxiway when the larger planes are using it.

The $82 million project has been awarded to R&L Brosamer Inc, and is set to begin in May.
