Woman escapes kidnap attempt in Camarillo

CAMARILLO, Calif. The woman was walking in the neighborhood of million dollar homes when she was confronted by the suspect.

The 24-year-old victim told investigators that she couldn't sleep and decided to go for a walk in the neighborhood near Worth Way and Castillo De Rosas around 2 a.m. Saturday. As she was walking the suspect drove up in a truck and asked for directions.

"She started giving him directions to the gas station, and all of a sudden he got out of the truck and grabbed her by the arm and tried to pull her," said Sgt. Steve Sagely of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

Officers said as the two struggled another car drove up and scared the suspect off. The suspect's vehicle is described as an older model American pickup truck with an extended cab and a large toolbox in the back.

Investigators said the suspect is a white male in his late 20s about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with short brown hair.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the police sketch is asked to call the Ventura County Sheriff's Department at (805) 654-9511.
