Officials to offer cheap car insurance

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. Many motorists may be tempted to drop their /*car insurance*/ to save money, but California wants to remind drivers that the state offers low-cost policies under the /*California Low Cost Automobile Insurance*/ (CLCA) program.

The program has been around for awhile, but officials are pushing the program again as the unemployment rate increases.

For those who qualify, rates could be as low as $30 a month.

To qualify, an applicant must be a good driver, with no more than one at-fault property damage accident. Family income must not exceed 250 percent of the federal poverty level.

Also, the value of an insured vehicle must not exceed $20,000.
