Police and parents are on the lookout for a man who tried to kidnap a teenage girl Wednesday as she walked to school in the Silver Lake area.Police said the 14-year-old was on her way to Thomas Starr King Middle School when someone grabbed her from behind and tried to drag her away.

She told police she escaped by fighting back and repeatedly kicking the man until he was forced to let her go.

The school sent a note home to parents reminding them to stay vigilant.

"People are sick out there," said parent Patricia Ramirez.

Police increased patrols in the area, and students said they plan to change their habits.

"I'm going to start asking my dad if he can drop me off every morning because, yeah, I'm getting kind of scared," said student Marie Cascelltort.

Police released a composite sketch of the suspect they are looking for in this case. He is described as being between 30 and 40 years of age and 5 '7" tall. His car is described as a dark gray 2008-2009 Honda Accord.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call (877) LAPD-24-7.
