Man gets death for O.C. yacht killings

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. Skylar Deleon, 29, was found guilty in October of killing Tom and Jackie Hawks in 2004 to steal their yacht. Deleon tied them to an anchor and tossed them into the ocean.

The bodies of the former Prescott, Ariz., couple have never been recovered.

A jury recommended the death penalty on November 6, and on Friday, Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank F. Fasel on imposed the sentence.

Family members of the slain couple gave emotional testimony during the hearing.

Deleon's wife was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for her part in the killings.

A third man convicted in the murders is expected to be sentenced at a later date.

Deleon as a youngster appeared in a non-speaking role in several episodes of the "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" television series.
