LOS ANGELES --Sheriff Lee Baca is looking to beef up the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.He is seeking approval from the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to apply for a federal grant that would finance the hiring of 425 new deputies.
Tuesday is the deadline.
The county could receive over 130 million dollars, and the money would fund the salaries and benefits for the new hires for 36 months. After that, the county would have to come up with funding for operating costs.
