Confusion over Iraq suicide bombing

BAGHDAD, Iraq It was the fourth major attack on Iraqi Security forces in seven days, raising new concerns about the military's ability to block insurgents from penetrating armed forces.

At first, 16 soldiers were said to be killed and another 50 wounded.

Later, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry said 38 Iraqi soldiers were wounded and only the bomber was killed.

A police officer who works at a station near the base said he saw at least 10 mangled bodies being removed from the compound.

The suicide bomber reportedly wore an Iraqi military uniform.

Numerous attacks since April 10 have left almost 40 people dead and have raised questions whether Iraqi forces are prepared to take over from U.S. troops, when they withdraw by June 30.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
