Push for safety with new rail crossing

GLENDALE, Calif. The crossing on Flower Street is the first of 120 receiving safety upgrades.

It will be tougher for drivers to squeeze by the new gates because they span the width of the street and are flanked by raised concrete medians.

Pedestrian gates and traffic signal improvements were also included.

The city of Glendale paid for the project, and the goal is to prevent crashes such as the one in 2005 that killed 11 people on board a Metrolink train.
