Woman, daughter killed in Pasadena wreck

PASADENA, Calif. Police said the collision was reported shortly before 8 a.m. at Martelo and Orange Grove.

A woman and her three children were traveling eastbound on Orange Grove Boulevard in a Toyota Sequoia SUV when the woman apparently swerved her vehicle into a car, creating a chain reaction wreck involving six cars.

"Witnesses report that the Sequoia was swerving in some lanes of traffic," said Lisa Dederian, Pasadena Fire Department.

Police said the woman, Robyn Shaw, 35, and her 9-year-old daughter, Victoria Shaw, were declared dead on the scene. The driver's two other children, a 16-month-old boy and a 5- or 6-year-old girl, were rushed to a local hospital. The 16-month-old is reportedly in serious condition, and the girl is in critical condition.

Rescue crews had to use heavy equipment to free the victims from the SUV. Authorities said it took 45 minutes to get to the 12-year-old, who was killed.

Two adults in other cars were also taken to a local hospital. One of them is in critical condition.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
