Put your pooch on the green bandwagon

Jen Boulden is the co-founder of IdealBite.com, a green Web site devoted to helping people go green one bite at a time. She gave /*Eyewitness News*/ some tips to get your pooch on the green bandwagon.

With more than 75 million pooches in the United States contributing their own carbon pawprint, our four-legged friends make quite an impact on the environment.

Ideal Bite's pooch product tester, Cricket, always has her next meal in mind. And one of her favorites is the /*Whiner and Diner*/, which is an elevated dog feeder made from a reclaimed wine crate. This helps the environment because any time you don't have to buy a new product, you are doing a great thing.

Cricket also loves /*Recycle Bones*/, which is a plastic chewing bone made from scraps that would have been going to the landfill. The bone has a hole in the side where you can put a little bit of peanut butter, which will keep your dog entertained for hours.

Being a responsible dog owner means cleaning up after your dog does its "business." But, if you pick it up with a grocery store bag, or other plastic bag, that preserves the waste forever. In fact, 10 million pounds of pet waste ends up in landfills each year. Instead of a plastic bag, use a corn-based bio bag that can decompose.

Finally, when it's time for bed your dog can still dream green. Cricket has a /*West Paw dog bed*/. The bed's filling is made from recycled soda bottles.

Going green can be fun and easy when you do it one bite at a time.
